The Department of Commerce, Baptist College, Kohima organized an industrial tour from 21st-26st February, 2026 to Sikkim and Siliguri with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to industrial operations and management practices. A total of 20 students, accompanied by Dr. Avele Thirah and Dr. Kevino Nagi, Asst. Professors, Commerce participated in the tour along with a tour guide. The group travelled from Dimapur to New Jalpaiguri and then proceeded by road to Gangtok.
During their stay in Sikkim, the students visited important locations such as Tsomgo Lake, Nathula Pass, Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, Gonjang Monastery, and Tashi View Point, which also allowed them to experience the cultural and natural heritage of the region. The tour later continued to Siliguri, where the students explored local markets and commercial spaces.
A major highlight of the tour was the industrial visit to Raninagar Industrial Park in Siliguri, where the students visited Teesta Co. Private Limited, Louis Bakery, and an Alkatra production unit. These visits provided valuable insights into industrial processes such as tea manufacturing, bakery production, and chemical processing, along with exposure to quality control, safety measures, and workplace management. The experience helped students connect theoretical classroom learning with real-world industrial practices.
