BA 5th Semester, Department of History organised a Historical Local Tour to Khonoma Village, on 26 th October, 2024 as part of their Annual Department Activity

The Department of History, Baptist College, Kohima, with Mr. Asilie Rürhia, HOD, Mr. Chubutse Naro, Assistant Professor, Dr. Visetonu Natso, Assistant Professor and Ms. Alito Swu, Assistant professor and forty three (43) students of BA 5th Semester, undertook  a field trip to Khonoma Village as a part of historical visit on 26th October, 2024.

Often referred to as “Warrior Village” Khonoma Village is renowned for its steadfast resistance during the era of British colonial rule. Some of the places the team visited were the two monolith dedicated to Khrisanisa Seyie, the first President of Federal Government of Nagaland and Sievizo Seyie, a Naga legendary warrior, the Semoma Fort, which was described to be one of the strongest fort in the Northeast by Maj. John Butler of the British army. The team also visited the tomb monument of Mr. G.H. Damant, British Political Officer of the Naga Hills who was assassinated by Mr. Vizerü Rürhia at Khonoma on 14th October, 1879 and the monolith of Semo Kuda Khwünoria.

The tour proved to be a valuable opportunity for the visiting team to learn and experience about the rich heritage and historical importance of the site.
