Department of English Organises Literature Fest, 9th Edition on 25th September, 2026

The Department of English, Baptist College Kohima, organized the 9th Edition of the BCK Literature Fest on 25th September, 2026 at Rivenburgs Memorial Chapel on the theme, “The Living Anthology: Connecting the Scholar, the Author, and the Stage.” The inaugural session was chaired by Asola C Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of English. The program opened with a prayer by Longsemnaro Jamir, B.A. 5th Semester, followed by an address delivered by Dr. Tsenbeni, HOD, Department of English. A special number was presented by the B.A. 5th semester students, English department.

The first session featured a Student Colloquium on the theme “Literature and Society.” The session was chaired by Dr. Sentinaro, Assistant Professor, Department of English. A total of 8 students presented papers on  diverse topics exploring the relationship between literature, culture, identity and social life. The presentations covered indigenous narratives, oral traditions, popular literature, language, gender, cultural memory and the changing forms of literature in the digital age, showing how literature reflects society and its changing experiences.

The student presenters were:

(2)Nungmei Konyak, BA 3rd semester- “ Popular Literature : A Study of its Relationship with Readers, the Market and Society.”

(3)Shanti Bhator BA5th Sem,  “When Language Becomes a Home: Literature, Culture and the Preservation of Memory

(4) Pewe-u Naro, BA3rd semester, Sechü campus “Gender in Literature.”

(5) Pipivi Sheqi  BA1st Sem, “ Indegenious Narrative: Preserving Culture, Identity and Collective Memory.”

(6)  James Rai, B.A 3rd Sem, “Literature and the Transformation of the Naga Society ”

(7)  Kevizalie Vakha, B.A 5th semester,”Literature and Identity: Innocence, Experience, and the Way We See Others”

(8) Thejalelie Keyho- (BA 5th sem-Sechü) “Literature in the Digital Age.”

Ms. Pipivi Sheqi and Mr. Thejalelie Keyho won the Best Presenter and Best Paper respectively.

“Telling Our Stories:Memory, Identity and Imagination”, a session with Machipeibo Zeliang, Author & Assistant Professor,Department of English, St.Xavier College,Jalukie, Nagaland chaired by Wondanglo P. Tsopoe, Assistant Professor, Department of English, explored the role of memory in creative and writing process. The author recounted how his grandparents and mother’s dreams, prayers and the stories they narrated inspired his work.

The closing session chaired by Süvilü, Assistant Professor, Department of English, featured an Inter-College Open Mic Competition. The judges were Dr. Holika Yeptho, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Mt.Olive College Kohima, Dr. Ghunato Neho, Assistant Professor, Department of English,BCK, and Juving Nokhio Lam, Assistant Professor, Department of English,BCK. Thirteen students from four colleges participated. Apuka Zhimo, BCK, Mhalevonuo Khezhie,Kohima College Kohima and  Rokonuo Mekro, Alder College won the first, second and third position respectively.

B.A 3rd Semester, Department of English, BCK presented a song and the program concluded with prize distribution and closing prayer by Loly Chophi, Assistant Professor, Department of English.
