“Beginning the Journey”: Baptist College Conducts Freshers’ Orientation Programme, 9th June, 2026

Baptist College, Kohima and Sechü organised the Freshers Orientation Programme for BA and B.Com 1st Semester on 9th June, 2026 at 10 am under the theme ‘Beginning the Journey.’ The students were divided into two groups- comprising of Department of Political Science and English in Group 1, at the Rivenburgs Memorial Chapel and Department of Sociology, History and Commerce in Group 2 at Room 5 in Kohima Campus.

The Orientation on Academics at Rivenburgs Memorial Chapel for Group 1 was shared by Dr. Kekuchol Pusa, Principal, where he highlighted on the FYUGP courses under NEP 2020, the division of two semesters – Odd (June-November) and Even Semester (December- May), Papers prescribed for Semester I -VI, Credit-based system, and the conduct of two Internal Assessment in the college based on assignment writing, project work and written examination and the N.U End Semester Examination. Dr. Pusa laid emphasis on the attendance requirement of minimum 80% as per university ordinance, the semester progression permissible with a maximum of three backlog papers, and the three years degree programme to be completed within a period of seven years.

The Rules & Regulations of the college was shared by Mr. Seyiesilie Vüprü, Assistant Professor Department of Political Science, primarily focusing on disciplinary rights exercised by the college authority, attendance policy of acquiring leave notefrom the concerned Head of Department for an absence of two days or more, weekly devotional services, uniform policy on uniform days(Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday) and non-uniform days (Wednesday & Saturday), cultural attire day (Wednesday), property and conduct responsibilities, prohibited activities on the usage of intoxicating substances and mobile usage during the class hours and examination and classroom conduct.

Dr. Sentinaro, IQAC Coordinator spoke on the IQAC Related Matters, apprising on the seven assessment criteria of NAAC based on curricular, teaching-learning method, research, innovations and extension, infrastructure and learning resources, student support services and progression extended by the Student Welfare Committee, governance, leadership and management, institutional values and two best practices of the college – the Culture Study Centre and Performance-based Rewards. The pivotal role students play as stakeholders for the upliftment of the college and opportunities for student’s holistic development based on seminars, research projects, NSS and extension activities, sports, literary and cultural events were emphasised.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr. Videkhono Yhokha, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and prayer pronounced by Mr. Tamreimung Chüsi, Chaplain. Ms. Asola C. Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of English was the rapporteur, Ms. Naro, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science and Ms. Rozila Sangtam, Assistant Professor, Department of English were in charge of attendance and Mr. Kevizhalhou Medom, Convenor, Technical & IT Advisory Committee was in charge of IT & Photography.

Orientation for Group 2 comprising of the department of Sociology, History and Commerce was conducted in Room 5, chaired by Mr. Kezhalelhou Zatsu, Head of Department, Commerce. Mr. Zatsu commenced by introducing the teachers. Mr.Asilie Rürhia , Head, Department of History pronounced the invocation. On academics, Dr.Tsenbeni shared about FYUGP, (Four Years Undergraduate program), that the college at present is offering a three year program as is done by many other colleges in Kohima.

Dr.Tsenbeni also introduced the courses offered by the collegeand the papers for each Department, that a student will have to take 35 papers for three years degree course.

She pointed that there will be two assessment, Internal and External, and students who do not clear the internal exam will not be able to appear the University exam.

Mrs.Narola Chuba, Vice-Principal, Kohima Campus highlighted  the rules and regulations of the college . She pointed out important rules on disciplinary rights like unsatisfactory academic progress, irregular attendance, acts of indiscipline or resorting to any form of unfair means inside the examination hall and non-payment of fees on time which may lead to expulsion.

On attendance policy , the requirement of 80% , failing which may lead to cancellation of their admission to examinations.The students were informed of uniform and non-uniform days and were reminded to dress decently on the non-uniform days.The students were also to compensate for any damage of property.

On Prohibitory Activities, Mrs. Chuba firmly stated that no society or union to be formed also that the college does not sponsor or organise any picnic or tours. Strictly stating that drunkenness from alcohol or drugs, paan or tobacco will lead to penalties like parental call or expulsion from the college. The students were reminded not to use phone inside the classroom, defaulting which has penalties. She ended with the importance of participation in different college activities urging the students to be honest, sincere and disciplined.

Dr Enünu covered on the subject of NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and IQAC (Internal Quality Assessment Cell). Pointing out the list of committees under IQAC and its functioning. Stating that students are the stakeholders, emphasizing on the student support services and welfare fund as an institutional distintinctiveness;where a  student from financially challenging background can apply for support funds, after the completion of  first semester. The two best practice of the college firstly, culture study centre established in 2003 and secondly, performance based rewared for both students and teachers.

The teachers incharge for attendance were Ms. Veshetsülü Ruho, Dr. Visetonu Natso, Ms. Ngulievino Rürhia, Asst. Professors department of Sociology, History and commerce respectively. IT and photography- Mr. Edwin Thapa, member Technical and IT and advisory Committee.

The Orientation programme for the Freshers was held in room no 2 at Sechü campus, chaired by Mr. Neisengulie, Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science, while Ms. Rüülhou-ü Mere, Asst. Professor, Department of Political Science, pronounced the invocation prayer.

Addressing the students on “Academic and IQAC-Related Matters”, Ms. Süvilü Venuh, Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, highlighted the FYUGP academic framework under National Education Policy (NEP 2020), courses offered, assessment pattern, credit requirements, continuous assessment, student support services, institutional values & practices and the role of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in maintaining academic standards and promoting quality education. Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe, Vice Principal, briefed the students on the institution’s “Rules & Regulations”, attendance requirements, uniform & disciplinary policies, examination procedures, classroom decorum, protection of college property, and other expectations of students.

Attendance for the programme was managed by Mr. K. Peter, Asst. Professor, Department of History and Dr. Ghunato Neho, Asst. Professor, Department of English while Ms. Menyiathsü Chusah, Asst. Professor, Department of Sociology handled the IT & photography.
