Baptist College, Kohima attended the State Level Viksit Bharat YUVA Connect Program on 12th August, 2025

Baptist College, Kohima, a partner College to the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland attended State Level Viksit Bharat YUVA Connect Program in observance of International Youth Day on 12th August, 2025 at Assembly Secretariat, Kohima under the initiative of IQAC and Legal Aid Committee of Baptist College, Kohima. Nineteen students and a teacher-in-charge attended the event as observers. The program witnessed Debate and Youth Parliament Competition on the topic ‘Emergency Period in India (1975-77)’ from different colleges across Nagaland representing 14 districts.

The competitions witnessed the participants in favour highlighting the Declaration of Emergency during the then Prime Minister, Smti. Indira Gandhi as a necessary step to stabilize the chaotic situations politically, economically and socially, thus safeguards the interest to nation building. Further speaking in favor of the Declaration, it is considered as a very constitutional move and a robust approach to timely response of the situations. While the other group of participants cited emergency declaration as curtailing individual’s and democratic freedom. They also questioned the intention behind the declaration of emergency which happened right after the Allahabad High Court verdict declaring the then ruling government guilty of electoral malpractices. Thus, witnessing a fair argument from each side considering the unstable conditions of the nations while the declaration affecting the lives of people by enforcing law coercively and inhumanly.

Shri. Anthony Ngullie, NCS,Commissioner and Secretary addressed the opening programme. He addressed the youth that Viksit Bharat is a collective mission and that youth have to come together in engaging, empowering and participating in Nation Building keeping in mind the demographic dividend of India.Shri. Kethosituo Sekhose, NCS (Director Youth Resources and Sports) chaired the session, Pastor Vikhoto Zao, Asst. Pastor,PCRC prayed for the event, welcome address was delivered by Kum. Naroenla, Youth Resources Officer and Representative from NYKS contextualized the event and introduce My Bharat Portal. Later that day during the valedictory programme Shri. Thejasevi Putsure, Young Entrepreneur was featured to the audience showcasing the spirit of Viksit Bharat while Smti. Khruohituonuo Rio, Secretary-in-charge, Nagaland Legislative Assembly gave a special address.
