Baptist College conducts debate competition on Inner Line Permit, 6th August, 2025

A debate competition was conducted by the Legal Aid Committee, Baptist College Kohima on the topic ” Inner Line Permit in Nagaland: Safeguarding Indigenous Identity or Hindering Development?” at Rivenburgs Chapel Hall on 6th August, 2025. The event witnessed 12 participants and also representatives from both Sechü and Kohima campus of B.A and B. Com 3rd Semester.

The arguments were presented from both the motion and the opposition.The motion team emphasized how Inner Line Permit(ILP) act as a protective bridge rather than a barrier, preserving cultural identity while ensuring interactions between the locals and the visitors.The opposition team raised concerns about security lapses and criticized ILP for negatively impacting tourism,potentially hindering the state’s economic growth.

Yimlong Konyak L and Vekhota were adjudged as the best debator from their respective teams. Panel of judges includes, Dr. Khobu Tsolo, Assistant Professor Department of Sociology, Neisengulie Assistant Professor Department of Political Science, Naro Assistant Professor Department of Political science. Dr. Ghunato Neho, Assistant Professor, Department of English moderated the event. Rüülhouü Mere prayed for the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Veshetsülü Rüho, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology.
