A Talk on Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act (Prostitution) & POSCO Act Organised by Political Science Department, 30th July, 2024

Department of Political Science, Baptist College organised a talk on “Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act (Prostitution ) and POSCO Act” on the 30th of July 2024 at Rivenburgs Memorial Chapel with Smti. Shruti Katiyar, Lawyer, Delhi High Court and Research Scholar at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA as the speaker.

The speaker highlighted the reasons for the increase of people taking up prostitution as a job and the immoral trafficking of people for this purpose. She also spoke on how the ITPA acts as a means of limiting and eventually abolishing prostitution in India by gradually criminalising various aspects of sex work.

The speaker then proceeded on to her second talk on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012 which was introduced to provide a robust legal framework for the protection of children from offences of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interest of the child at every stage of the judicial process.

The program was chaired by Ms. Aosangla Jamir, welcome address was delivered by Mr. L. Thsidelong Rüdy, HOD Department of Political Science and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Seyiesilie Vüprü.
