A Talk on “Global Warming and Climate Impact,” organised by Eco Green Club in collaboration with IQAC, Baptist College, Kohima on 21st October, 2024

Eco Green Club in collaboration with IQAC, Baptist College Kohima, organised a talk on Global Warming and Climate Impact with Shri Supongnukshi Ao, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, Environment, Biodiversity and Research, Nagaland, as the Resource Person.

Shri Supongnukshi discussed what global warming is, why we should care and what we can do. He stated that the earth is warming and the temperature is rising, resulting in environmental changes such as the appearance of new diseases in animals and humans, skin cancer, old diseases in new places, changes in crop yield and water scarcity, rising sea level where there is an increase in weather occurrences, an increase in fire occurrences, and greater temperature fluctuation. He proposed several solutions to combat global warming, including being energy efficient, not littering, harvesting solar light, recycling, conserving water, using public transportation, avoiding pesticides, and planting more trees.
He also discussed the impact of global warming on Nagaland state, stating that it will increase the number of diseases and pests, reduce crop productivity, cause erratic heavy rainfall, extend dry spells, and cause more cash crops to die. He adds that the Nagaland forest area shrank from 13719 sq.km in 2005 to 12251 sq.km in 2021. He encouraged the students and discussed his opinion on how people can be more involved in protecting the environment and combating climate change.

The program was chaired by Ms.Sevolü Chüzho, Convenor, Eco Green Club. Dr. Enünü Sale, Asst. Coordinator, IQAC, said the invocation, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sentinaro, Coordinator, IQAC and Mr. Ketoukhriezo Suokhrie, Student Coordinator, Eco Green Club pronounced the vote of thanks.
