A Talk on – “From Classroom to Career: Alumni Experiences and Reflections”, 20th September, 2025

The Department of History, Baptist College Kohima and Sechü Campus, conducted a one-day event on the theme ‘From Classroom to Career: Alumni Experiences and Reflections’ on 20th September 2025 at Room No.3, Kohima Campus.

The event was chaired by Mr. Chubutse Naro, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Kohima Campus. This was followed by a keynote address delivered by Mr.Asilie Rürhia, Assistant Professor and Head of Department, who warmly welcomed the resource persons and congratulated them on their success thus far. He highlighted the objective of the seminar, stating that the event aimed to inspire present students to focus on their goals with dedication and sincerity and to celebrate the successes of the alumni.

The opening prayer was pronounced by Mr. K. Peter Maram, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Sechü Campus, after which, a special song was presented by Ms. Sarmistra Pandey, a student of B.A1st Semester, Department of History.

The talk featured esteemed alumni as resource persons, including Mr. Keneinguzo Sekhose (NPSC – EAC, 4th Rank,2025),Batch of 2021; Mr. Nuvesayi Hesuh, Entrepreneur and Proprietor of Disstech Nagaland, Batch of 2015; and Dr. Heme, Independent Researcher, Batch of 2014. Each speaker shared their personal journeys, professional experiences, and the challenges they overcame in their pursuit of success.

Mr. Keneinguzo Sekhose shared his inspiring journey toward achieving 4th Rank in NPSC EAC, 2025. He spoke about his academic background and credited his teachers at Baptist College Kohima for their guidance. He detailed the challenges and trials he faced while preparing for various competitive exams—qualifying UGC NET, clearing NSSB, and eventually succeeding in the NPSC exam. He emphasized the importance of strict study routine, consistency, dedication and sacrifices. He shares how he would  start each day with prayer and Bible reading, which kept him motivated during his exam preparations. He also urged students to embrace sacrifice, discipline, consistency, sincerity, and to always put God first.

Mr. Nuvesayi Hesuh recounted his humble beginnings—from running a small paan shop to becoming the proprietor of Disstech Nagaland. He encouraged students to trust the process and keep God at the center of their journey. He highlighted that success is not achieved overnight but through hard work, consistency, and steady progress. He reminded the audience that life doesn’t demand perfection but persistence and passion, concluding with the powerful quote: “Life doesn’t give you what you want but what you work for.”

Dr. Heme shared insights from his work as an independent researcher. He emphasized the significance of research in preserving history and memory, stating, “Without research, memory fades—and it is history that builds bridges.” He also fondly recalled his time at Baptist College and encouraged students to remain dedicated to their aspirations with sincerity and focus.

The presentations were followed by an interactive Q&A session where students actively engaged with the speakers, gaining further insights and advice.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Mhabeni Ezung, Assistant Professor, Department of History, Kohima Campus. The programme concluded with a photo session and light refreshments.

The event was attended by History Major students from the First, Third, and Fifth Semesters, along with seven faculty members from the Department of History. The talk ended on an inspiring note, leaving students motivated to pursue their goals with determination and purpose.
