An Online Interactive Talk on Cyberbullying and its Impact on the Mental Health of Youth in India, 7th April, 2026

An interactive online talk on ‘Cyberbullying and its Impact on the Mental Health of Youth in India’ was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Baptist College, Kohima, Nagaland in collaboration with the Student Welfare Committee, Maa Manikeshwari University, Kalahandi, Odisha   on  Google Meet from 6pm-7 pm, 7th April,2026.

Dr. S. Sibi Chakkaravarthy (Co-PI) Professor (G1), Department of Computer Science and Engineering, VIT-AP University and Dr. Madhulika Sahoo (PI & DSW) Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Maa Manikeshwari University, Kalahandi were the resource persons, both sharing their presentations and taking up questions during the interactive Q&A session.

Dr. Chakkaravarthy shared on the serious danger of the next frontier of social interaction and cyberbullying in the metaverse which is a 3 dimension space with virtual avatar which will make virtual bullying increasingly indistinguishable from real-life abuse. He also made a real life demonstration on the technological possibility of the use of Deepfake which realistically replace one person’s likeness with another.

Dr. Sahoo presented a brief overview of cyberbullying with India which has the highest rate of cyberbullying worldwide. Various forms of online harassment with noticeable rise since COVID 19 epidemic, the devastating repercussions of cyberbullying on mental health especially on young people with signs and symptoms and ways to protect and deal with cyberbullying were highlighted.

Both the resource persons are part of a major 3-year project funded by DST, government of India on ‘A Novel Deep Learning Model to Identify Cyberbullying and its Impact on the Mental Health of the Youth.’ Students were shared the link to take part in the survey as well.
