Baptist College, Kohima observes 42nd Freshers’ Day
The 42nd Freshers’ Day of Baptist College, Kohima under the theme “New Beginning, Endless Possibilities,” organised by the Student Council, BCK in partnership with TaFMA was held at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, on the 3rd of August 2024. The programme was chaired by Ms. Loly Chophi, Assistant Professor, Department of English and graced by Dr. Hovithal N. Sothu, Project Director, TaFMA, as the guest speaker.
Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe, Interim Principal, Baptist College, in his welcome address, motivated students to cultivate an inquisitive mind and clarity of vision to be able to increase knowledge and also to be able to make the best possible choice for one’s life and career path.
Sharing and pointing to the aptness of the theme for the event the guest speaker, Dr. Sothu, both congratulated and cautioned the freshers not to bask in the past glory or success. He challenged them to start their entry into college life as “young simple, innocent men and women” and to refrain from complaining. He stated, “Successful people never complain.” He further encouraged the students to truly work hard and pass out as good graduates rather than mere degree holders as there may be endless possibilities but nothing comes easy.
The introductory round of contestants for Mr. and Ms. Fresher was one of the highlights of the programme which was carried forward to the informal session where Mr. Pangteh H, Department of Sociology and Ms. Preety Malakar, Department of History won the coveted titles respectively. The judges for the contest were Dr. Sentinaro, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Mr. K. Peter, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Ms. Kethosenuo Medoze, Assistant Professor, Department of History.
The programme opened with an invocation prayer by Mr. John Pungriso, President, BCF, Sechü Campus and witnessed different presentations like welcome song from the 5th semester students, special performance by the Nagaland Folkloric and the freshers. Speech on behalf of the freshers and seniors was delivered by Mr. Thrunso K. and Ms. Vipeni T Achumi respectively. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Kihitoli A. Kiho, President, Student Council and prayer for freshers by Mr. Tamreimung Chüsi, Chaplain, Baptist College. The programme was followed by refreshment and the informal session began with Ms. Thejavinuo Nipu, B.A 3rd semester, Department of History, as the host. The session saw stellar performance by LC Sekhose, Khriebu Meyase and Sangbolong Jamir. A host of talents from the college also enthralled the audience. Nagaland Trade & Agencies and AKI Cabin were the sponsors of the event’s giveaways.
